Distance & Time
About 16km, About 5hrs.: From Tamaki town office (Tamaru Station) to Tochihara Station
--- a little hard walk

Summary
Pilgrims started their trip to Kumano from Tamaru after they vistited Ise-jingu Shrine. At Tamaru they changed their cloth to white cloth, which was uniform of pilgrims. So this is the first trail of "Ise-ji Route."
Meki-toge Pass is gentle pass with typical metamorphic rock and made of big cutting for a road.
Except Meki-toge Pass you walk on paved road, but walking through Tamaki-cho, Taki-cho and Odai-cho, you can enjoy atmosphere of old Kumano-kaido road with old guideposts, temples and Japanese-style houses.
